'80s

'81:
Donkey Kong comes out, and with the hard work of Minoru Arakawa and his team(mostly Ron Judy and Al Stone), it's a hit. Deciding on a name wasn't hard; the man in the game looked just like their landlord, Mario Segali. "Mario, Super Mario!"

'82:
MCA, the giant that bought Atari(and made it fall to its knees), sues Nintendo over "Donkey Kong" infringing on "King Kong". By sticking to his guts, Howard Lincoln(Arakawa's sidekick, you could say) decides not to settle. Kirby, their recently-hired and trusted-from-then-on lawyer, stumbles upon one flaw with MCA's plan; there was nothing to infringe upon. The little man, Mario, lives on only to fall at the hands of Donkey Kong Jr.

'84:
The Family Computer, or Famicom, comes out in Japan. Nintendo of America(NOA) tries to make it in the summer toy show with their machine disguised as a computer(to separate it from the Atari), but it didn't work. Game and Watches created by the late Gumpei Yokoi(who also worked vigorously on the Famicom) fail by a long shot in America at the summer toy show as well, with awful commercials following.

'85:
Next summer: they forget seriousness and aim for the toy stores. With Arakawa and his team's hard work, Nintendo wins once again. Mario and his brother, Luigi, help the Mushroom Kingdom out for the first time in Super Mario Bros.

'86:
The brothers are at it again in Super Mario Bros. 2: Super Mario Bros. for Super Players, this time on a disk add-on. The great Miyamoto and his wonderful team come up with a great game, but isn't original enough for the audience. The disk add-on fails, as does a bandwith modem network for playing games(which haunt Nintendo for their next two consoles).

'88:
NOA puts together Mario and company in Super Mario Bros. 2, a Mario-ized Dokki Dokki Panic(a Famicom Disk Add-On game). Japan soon gets it as Super Mario USA.
Tengen releases independent cartridges from Nintendo's agreement by looking in their folder at the patent office, and Nintendo threatens to cut off any store's supply of Nintendo if they carry these cartridges. Eventually, Nintendo beats Tengen in court, but now the government is open to a case due to Nintendo's illegal conduct.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is out.
