a Carrot he can float by holding A or rapidly pressing A in midair.

Caped Mario/Luigi: Super Mario World After getting a Cape
Feather, run fast and when Mario/Luigi's arms are out, jump to fly. Also use the
Y button to whip your cape.

Fire Mario/Luigi: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese),
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2: 6
Golden Coins When Mario/Luigi possess a Fire Flower, they become Fire
Mario/Luigi. Press the B button on NES and Game Boy or the Y button on the SNES
to throw fire balls. In SMW, the enemies turn into a coin.

Frog Mario/Luigi: Super Mario Bros. 3 When in a Frog Suit, one
can use the A button on the NES or the B button on the SNES to swim faster.
Also, you can swim just using the control pad.

Magic Wing(?) Mario/Luigi: Super Mario Bros. 3 When wearing a
Magic Wing, the bros. can fly forever using the normal fly button. Works only
for one action scene(AKA stage).
Metal Mario: Super Mario 64 When you hit a green block and get a
Metal Cap, you become the invincible Metal Mario that can sink in water.

Powerful Mario: Wario Land II, Wario Land 3
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, when Baby Mario gets a star, he turns into Powerful Mario and can run up walls(like using the Triangular Block in Super Mario World), destroy any enemy, and makes blocks appear.

Space Mario: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins In outer space,
Mario makes bigger jumps. Get out o' orbit in the Hippo Stage's bubbles.
Racoon Mario/Luigi: Super Mario Bros. 3 Mario/Luigi can now fly
after the P meter fills up by running straight.
Super Mario/Luigi: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2(Japanese),
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2: 6
Golden Coins When Mario/Luigi eats a Mushroom/Super Mushroom, they become
Super Mario/Luigi. He can now break blocks earlier forms couldn't, and
specifically, with a spin jump in SMW and SML2.
Superball Mario: Super Mario Land Grab a Flower and press B to
shoot superballs at a 90 degree angle.

Tanooki Mario/Luigi: Super Mario Bros. 3 Press Down+B to turn
into a statue and avoid enemies. Otherwise, just like Racoon Mario/Luigi.

Vanish Cap Mario: Super Mario
64 Wearing a Vanish Cap from a blue block, Mario can go through enemies
and some walls.
W
Wing Cap Mario: Super Mario 64 A Wing Cap from a red block gives
Mario the ability to fly after three consecutive jumps.
